Magic Sam

I love YouTube. Here's a video of Magic Sam. Magic Sam died in 1969 at the age of 32. I've never seen a video of him playing before, but I've listened to his records a lot. No doubt there's a useful connection to make between the blues and happiness, but I won't spoil the moment for you. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Reminds me of an interview with Clapton where he discussed his revelation that the blues was not about expressng sorrow, but about catharsis, about being going on with life and happy in spite of your blues. He said that once he realized that he didn't have to feign worry, worry, worry everytime he played, it made the blues all the more wonderful.

  3. Thank you for this Magic Sam video. Magic has long been my all time favorite Blues man. I love the combination of his vocals intertwinded with his unique guitar playing. I attended an Eddie Shaw & The Wolf Gand show last night and Eddie Vaan Shaw is one hell of a guitar player. When I asked him who his biggest influence was he said Magic Sam! I was blown away. Anyway, Eddie Vaan told me that the Grateful Dead did a number of shows with Magic Sam and the concerts are going to be released on DVD later this year!!! Can't wait to bring Magic Sam to a wider audience. He certainly deserves to be known and loved by more.
